I kind of have the opposite situation. I haven't gotten the VPN right yet, but I do have an mr3020 working as a wireless client and an AP.
In case it helps, this is the cheat sheet I wrote up to have with me:
cable connect to mr3020 (with switch set to WISP)
establish internet connection:
Network
Wifi
Scan for hotel wifi
Join Network
enter passphrase
Submit
Save
Click Wireless Security if necessary
Save & Apply
establish access point:
Network
Wifi
Add
enter SSID: (whatever you want)
Mode: Access Point
Network: select lan
Click Wireless Security to set passphrase (whatever you want)
Save & Apply
