My suggestion is to make a reservation for your allowed room type for your desired dates. Then call M-F during business hours, ask to speak to a manager and use the reservation as a reference.

Your goal should be to make a fair deal for both of you. After you've agreed on something, ask for the manager's email and then use it to follow up confirming your discussion and thanking him/her for their consideration.
