What versions of firmware have worked for you? And are you able to get OpenVPN working in a wireless LAN and WAN environment with a captive portal such as a hotel?
Haven't tried OpenVPN on it - but I know there's a DD-WRT version that works on it, as does Shibby's variant of Tomato. Both include OpenVPN. I have DD-WRT installed on a 330ge that I never use. Note that it doesn't seem to support WISP mode with the alternative firmwares.

I suspect you'd need to authenticate through the captive portal first, then log in to the router and start the OpenVPN client.
