Welcome to FlyerTalk. You probably do have two AA accounts, but you'll soon be able to merge them.
In all, the frequent flyer program merger seems to have been prepared for well, and most are reporting their satisfaction with the process.
The FFP merger date was never changed; they clearly announced March 28 as the target, that those who failed (or mismatched) to match their accounts in preparation for merging will probably have more than one AAdvantage account and will soon have the opportunity to merge those accounts on aa.com.
The American Airlines Combined Airline and Programs forum has two threads of interest in which these issues are addressed thoroughly. Why CEO Parker chose to retain one FFP over the other is not a worthwhile discussion, as we have no control or say in his team's decisions.
