If these are fully refundable, changeable, does that mean full fare?

If they are, call AA CS and sign up for Platinum challenge. You will have to squeeze out 10K full fare miles out of the 3 trips, but if you do, you will be Platinum, and one of the biggest differences between Gold and Plat is 100% bonus miles for Plats as opposed to 25% for Golds.
