With a possible misconnect, United will protect you on a later flight, but they don't take your confirmed seat away. American's computer system (not corporate as the pax was told) is taking confirmed seats away from confirmed pax way in advance, who make their connections. Believe compensation is due. Try calling American customer service, if not write into one of the magazines that helps travelers.
