having done a couple of trips to bkk in coach, i can appreciate the need for a nice hotel when you arrive.

my reco would be the peninsula. it is (according to T&L, at least) the number one hotel in the world, and it is amazing. we paid around 120 the first time and 160/night the second time there. i can't say enough about it - defintely worth the extra money.

AND - i'm not sure about 'nice' hotels at $35/night in bkk. sure, you can get deals, but we also tried le meridien there ($85) and it was very worn out.
