The mileage run forum is for people who do just that: get on a plane for no particular reason (other than the miles), spend hundreds of dollars to earn perks and accumulate miles. I earned NW Platinum the same way. All 84,000 miles this year were mileage runs and leisure trips with the exception of one business trip to L.A. (about 5000 miles). I had a great time doing it, met some awesome flyertalk people and will do it again next year.
