The challenge with calculating this is where the line between leisure and mileage run travel blurs, no?
For example: I would have never put SIN at the top of my travel list, but jumped on the opportunity to score some NW miles, lock up some status, and make a mini-vacation (3 nights) out of it when those low fares came out in the summer. True mileage run? No, but it's not exactly a sane person's vacation either.
Here are my calculations (...clearly I'm procrastinating...):
AA
pure mileage run: 0 miles, 0%
leisure trips "driven by the deal": 35,643 miles, 81% ($319 SFO-BCN, the CX BKK muck-up fare, $207 SFO-CUN, etc.)
leisure trips "i planned to take anyway": 7,905 miles, 19%
business trips: 0 miles, 0%
NW
pure mileage run: 3,612 miles, 8%
leisure trips "driven by the deal": 19,780 miles, 43% (3 night SIN trip)
leisure trips "i planned to take anyway": 6,597 miles, 14%
business trips: 15,527 miles, 34%
the business percentage would normally be higher but i was on the dole from may through september.
