Not quite sure I can understand why the quote for changing it to Club Europe and a day earlier was so much more than just buying a new ticket. I suspect that the ticketing tried to do something odd using both the LBA-LHR and LHR-NCE sector.
Probably as you suspect because you didn't have a LHR-NCE redemption but a LBA-NCE redemption, when they came to change it, they had to price it based on a change the first sector as well.
Anyway, that's my guess.
