Just back from a CAI-BKK return with layovers of 8 and 14 hours respectively (STPC was refused both ways as there were shorter connection times : of course more expensive).

On arrival outbound 17.30 we took the free Doha tour . I think we would have enjoyed it more had it not been raining but it still ate up 3-4 hours of the layover. Were taken to the corniche and the views were impressive . Then onto the Pearl which I found a little to sterile and finally to the Souq Watif which we enjoyed despite the rain as it was the only place that we saw with any life . Anyway after that the Al Mourjan lounge kept us busy until the onward flight .

On the return with arrival 00.15 we had pre booked the HIA airside hotel and if you are considering this ,book a cancellable room ,as it was fully booked and they were turning away many people . Yes the hotel is expensive and not really good for much more than sleeping or having a swim but its new and clean and we scored a double upgrade to exec room and I slept really well. Having experienced the landing immigration etc on the tour I was happy not to do it again just for a nights sleep .

My first flights with Qatar , first real J experience and first A380 flight. I have to say I'm hooked
