The area I live in is in the Heathrow flight path, and I was out playing tennis today. The wind was *crazy*. (I remember one time in probably similar winds the plane I was on got within 30 feet or so of the runway at Gatwick, then pulled up and diverted to AMS). I'm not surprised it was scary for people.
