When NZ90 used to stop in CHC it then flew on to AKL as a domestic repositioning flight. I'm pretty sure with NZ94 now that the reposition to Auckland is an empty flight - which if true would probably explain why Air NZ dislike it.
There currently a couple of flights between CHC-AKL that are op'd by an 763 domesitcly, with domesitc flight numbers.
