I have not done this myself, but when flying MIA-MCI last Wednesday, the FA ran out of the beef dish after I ordered. The pax next to me in the aisle said he didn't want the pasta option, which prompted the FA to ask if there was anything she could grab off the BoB cart in Y. He declined, as he later said he wasn't hungry, but good to see the FA being proactive.
