It's not the number of days that are important, but rather the number of survey respondants. At minimum they would need 300 to 400 surveys back. When we do research we usually try and target 1,000 to 1,200 responses, to drive statistically significant analysis.
Over 5 days, they would need to get 250 or so back each day. If they test this on 100 flights per day with at least 2-3 people on each flight purchasing a meal, it seems reasonable that they could easily reach over 1,000 survey respondants. This would give a very accurate picture of where they should be going.
