Also available 5/29 and 5/30. Add AA flights to MIA if available. IB does have surcharges but they are much lower than BA. If a better option (such as MIA-MAD) becomes available, date and routing changes are free as long as you don't change your origin or destination.

I finally had my miles post and called to book this. The AA reservation line person says I cant to MIA-SDQ-MAD-ORY on one award ticket because "SDQ is not a gateway." She says it has to be one award ticket from MIA-SDQ, then a separate award ticket for SDQ-MAD-ORY.
That sound right? I don't understand why it would have to be 2?
Edit. Called back and got the same answer from a second AA rep. Am I missing something?
