Although, the comments of not much to do/see are making me second guess.
I don't know if I quite agree that there is
nothing to see. I was able to fill a couple of days seeing and photographing sites around town in the fall. The botanical garden at Hokkaido University is nice as is the night view from atop Mt. Moiwa and there are some interesting old buildings.
All the above notwithstanding though, I did find Hakodate, about three hours away by train, to be much more interesting and scenic. If I had a couple of days at the end of April to go to Hokkaido, I'd go there instead of Sapporo. The sakura should be in full bloom then. And the crab is
always good. :-)
