This is tight. But if your flight is on time, it is doable. The wild card is immigration. Could be 10 minutes or 2 hours.

You do have to claim and recheck your bags, but it is very easy and takes little time. If you go out via the customs checkpoint on the left hand side of baggage claim, the AA recheck is right through the doors. Very fast. Then go to the arrivals hall and up the escalator to the shuttle train. Terminal 3 is the next stop (be sure to go in the right direction or you will end up in remote parking). The trains run every few minutes and Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 takes just a few minutes.

Security in Terminal 3 can get long but there are several security stations, so if the first one you see is crowded, walk down to one of the others.
