I did secure the seat yesterday with my a31 boarding position, but the FA told me something I had never heard before.
So my 5 and 7 year old boarded with me and my wife boarded at a46 with the CP. When I saw u was going to get my coveted seat, I told my boys to sit in the row behind. The FA then proceeded to tell me that families can't split up by an exit row and that it's an FAA rule. I tell him my wife just got on the plane and that she would be sitting with the kids. He quoted the rule a couple more times and then said something to the effect of "I just have to tell you."
I sat in the seat anyways and my wife sat with the kids. During beverage service the FA directs me to the exit row instructions/rule pamphlet so I can read the rule for myself. It's there of course and I understand why the rule is there, however because my wife is with the kids I don't really see the issue.
Finally when deboarding the plane, he asks me if I had a chance to review the rule, and once again tells me that he just had to make me aware.
Pretty annoying, but my 6'5" frame had a comfortable flight
