I have no idea but per the feedback I've heard from a buddy that works at AA... the LAX - JFK route is far more in demand for premium than SFO.
Check the schedule in July there is an LAX - JFK flight every hour from 6 AM to 4 PM, and 2 evening flights a total of 13 daily!!! while there is only 5 SFO - JFK flights daily. So far it's a rumor to dump the 3 class cabin out of SFO... a rumor that some at AA think will become reality. This is feedback from SFO base crew. Like I said a rumor but the numbers show, LAX - JFK is healthy.

I always thought SFO-JFK was one of the healthier routes in terms of revenue for the airline, especially revenue coming from premium cabins.
I for one, sometimes pay extra for the lie-flat seats...if they weren't lie-flat I wouldn't bother paying for domestic F/J.
