I'm looking to book award reservation from US to Hong Kong for the summer (August) on AA miles; we only have enough miles to purchase 2 business and 1 coach tickets.
If I book coach class for my 7 years old and business class for spouse and myself, would my kid be allowed to stay with her mother during the flight? My 7 years old is short and small.

Will we able to get free upgrade for my kid in the spot if there are non-booked business seat?
I could also book coach class for myself and business class for spouse and my kid. But I am afraid the odd for me to stay with them is slim.
What are the odd to be able to book the business class? Last time I check there were no CX business class available. We can thinking from EUG -> LAX -> HKG. Will any other routes make more sense and making the booking easier?
What else? Any hint about making the above arrangement to work better? Thanks in advance!
Here's an even better idea... Just book AAdvantage awards in coach on AA's DFW-HKG. Assuming you are at least PLT, grab the 3 MCE seats together. With a "small" 7-year old, you plop them down in the middle seat and both you and your wife have plenty of elbow room. Instead of costing you 320k miles (125k x2, 70k x1), it'll cost you 210k miles... use the other miles for 3x offpeak Milesaaver flight to Europe or South America.
That way you get 2 trips to make lifetime memories instead of 1.
But there is ZERO chance that AA/CX/any airline would let anyone stay up in J when they didnt pay for it.
