Indeed. I also assumed that policies in the EU and US in this regard were both arrived at in rational ways ..... or at least as rational as the product of government and corporate interests intersecting can get. Unfortunately, what passes for rational change in the aftermath of an incident or series of incidents in aviation isn't always built upon (or just upon) an appreciation for statistical measures of risk to life and limb.
