A few years ago, I was unable to check-in for an ANA domestic flight in Japan to Tokyo Narita (it was an Air Canada codeshare) as part of an Air Canada itinerary from Japan to Canada. They said it was too early and that I had to come back 2 hours before the departure of my flight. Why couldn't they just take my bags and be done with it? They were checking in people for all other flights. I don't know why, but they had a special sign saying "Narita international connections" at the check-in area. Anyone been turned away from checking in with ANA at a domestic airport in Japan as part of a connecting international itinerary? I'm hoping I don't have this same problem when I travel this week.
