So your position is that if you were using FareLock for four tickets for, say, a couple and two kids, you'd expect to be charged only a single FareLock fee, same as if you were only reserving one seat? Even though fares may go up in the interim and you'd save on all four tickets?
That seems a bit of a stretch, though they could probably stand to improve the purchase experience. I hope they do so on the beta site they're testing.
With regard to your other question, because you did in fact hit the "purchase" button, I'm afraid the no refund policy would seem to apply. Your only recourse is to write a sweet letter to UA Customer Service and throw yourself on their mercy.
Attempting to dispute the charges when you clearly understand their policy would not be appropriate in my opinion.
