You can get almost 5 one-way economy flights between LAX - JFK for the grand sum of $30 total (if you find availability). Or you can do 8 one-way economy flights from JFK to MIA etc etc
The value is US depends on how much you would pay to fly those flights.
Personally i redeemed 10,000 avios for a Hawaii - LA one-way that would have otherwise cost me ~$370.
Best use of avios in my opinion.
