I'm glad it's not just me having this problem (twice now - multiple machines at two different airports). The older grey GE machines work fine. I can't for the life of me get the new blue ones to scan the card.
Pressing the "problem reading document" button is painless though. Just enter the 9 digit card number and you get inserted back into the same process as if the card had scanned.
