Something is missing from the OP's story-either from his guests or the hotel.
Happened to me once too on a business trip in the HR Koeln. When I checked out i saw charges for several dinners, although I had only eaten dinner in the hotel once (I was staying Regency Club, and the snacks at happy hour were dinner a couple of nights, some others I went into Old Town Cologne to eat, and on my last night i browsed from the food trucks set up for the Christmas Market). The desk clerk pulled the dinner checks, and when I pointed out the signatures on the checks were nothing like mine, cheerfully took the charges off of the bill.
