Also, what sort of "award booking service" did you use? Did they just find suitable flights and booked using your avios, or did you pay them a cash equivalent and the flight was purchased using their avios?
Nux, First of all, thanks for your input!!! The award service I used is called BookYourAward and I DO NOT recommend them. They charge a service fee of $ 150/person (4 of us, so $600) to book award itineraries using your own Avios or other currency of miles/points. The company is run by a very knowledgeable blogger (who I learned tremendously on how to book awards) and his partner. The company is very responsive and courteous but their ability of booking awards is surprisingly deficient. First of all, they’ve created this wrong name situation which I’m still dealing with. They were supposed to do the research, find availability, call the airline to book, minimize out of pocket expense with efficient use of your miles/points; they failed at all of their advertised attributes . For example, when redeeming Avios on Alaska Airlines for US domestic segments, a call to BA is required. Instead of calling, they just told me this segment is not available. However, I was able to secure the Alaska flight using Avios by calling on my own. I ended my service with them when they completely forgot to book segments for my multi-destination itinerary. I don’t believe these people’s ability to book an award is this bad, but I think they are just in to make money by cutting corners. Fortunately the company only booked my outbound flight and I did book the remainder of my multi-destination itinerary.
