I have limited experience with this but what I've discovered is that your US177 likely has a separate AA PNR which you need at access in order to change that seat. Separate anyway from the AA PNR for your outbound flight.

My suggestion is to go to usairways.com and pull up your US PNR and it should then show the AA PNR and is probably different than the AA PNR you already accessed.
