You're right, they are north of the airport. There are 2 Pequod's locations. If you don't mind driving down to the north side of Chicago, I'd suggest the Pequod's there instead. Santullo's is an exit or two further south, and Coalfire is yet another exit south. Any of them are driveable from ORD if traffic isn't bad -- 20 minutes or so.
The thread referenced in the last post has other ideas, mainly for deep dish I think. Personally I'm not a big fan of deep dish, but those are perfectly fine options too.
That's what I ended up doing - the Pequods on Clybourn. I didn't realize how small the place was - managed to get a seat at the bar after about 20 minutes but only because of luck and being by myself - lot of people were waiting well over an hour. Glad I did it to get it out of my system, but overall I would not make the effort for a second time.
