German courts have ruled it illegal for airlines to rob you of the return sector if you miss the outbound. If you had been flying from say FRA you'd be fine.
Not sure where Luxembourg stands but it would be worth doing some research.
My understanding is that it is required for airlines to offer tickets where the coupons can be used out of sequence , not that requiring coupons to be used in sequence is prohibited
As such, when making a booking on something like lufthansa.com . when searching for fares, have to select
I would like to benefit from the best offers and will use my flights in the booked sequence
or
I would like to have the flexibility to change the sequence of my flights
