I suppose some prefer either kind, i'm definitely a fan of the grey ones, they seem more dense and tend to cut out more effectively than they yellow ones IMO.
I must admit I generally use neither of them, but I find that it's less likely for CW ones to pop out once some effort is put into putting them in.

The grey ones have the sticky surface which I find start to irritate my ears after a while.

But my favourite by far as mentioned in my opening post is in-ear active noise cancelling earphones, with isolation ear buds (from Comply). About £15 for 3 pairs for these Comply ones but they are well worth it as they are basically comfortable earplugs with channels so that you can hear the music

If anyone is really keen on ear plugs, custom made ones are the best, followed by Bio Ears, then the wax ones, in my opinion.
