Can't say about international flights, but I missed upgrades 3 out of 4 segments a few days ago. Boarding along with F class worked out very well for me on each segment; got a few extra moments to get my carry-on into the overhead with no pressure. On each of the segments PM, GM and FO were at least 25% of the Y cabin.
