I have had to do it twice over the years...once for an immediate family member and once for me personally. They provided an e-credit that could be used on any flight and were great about it with no hassle whatsoever. I imagine with the new CRM software in play that there will be a limit to DL's generosity before they investigate, but I don't think a one-off request will raise any flags.
