I noticed your location was Japan. Did you buy this with a Japanese credit card? Many Japanese cards have pretty decent travel insurance built into them (but policies are almost always written in Japanese language only). Worth checking into if so, or have someone assist if you're not a Japanese speaker. One of my partner's cards even covered a medical bill last year in Egypt when she had put absolutely zero spend related to the trip on the card (some obscure Visa, not one of the major players). My primaries are Amex, Diners, and JCB but all of those require me to pay for the trip on the card to activate coverage.
