Thailand appears to be oddly expensive this year. I'm not that familiar with the SFO route specifically, but coming from the other way it is significantly cheaper to stop off somewhere else in Asia first rather than fly direct to BKK.

If price wasn't a factor I'd go CX via HKG or Thai direct and credit the miles to OW or *A accordingly.
