jridge, airfares are unpredictable, untamed beasts. In effect, I've been frustrated with UA prices in comparison to AA prices out of my home market. For example:

COS-DAY AA=264 UA=353
DEN-IND AA=255 UA=332

What this does tell me is not so much that UA/AA's prices are going up, but that the majors are not "matching" airfares as much as they used to...
