Happy to report menus have been regularly provided on MEL flights. This is over the past two years with 10 or so return flights.
I have always found the service to be spot on... equal to other good asian carriers (with the limits of what CA has to offer).
They will crouch down to take your meal orders, a bloody mary comes with salt and pepper shakers to add your own touch, plates are presented with the logo at the top, second glass of champage pre-departure? Not a problem. They provide you with a hot towel just before they spray the cabin on arrival into australia. I'm impressed by them - at least on their Aussie flights.
