I took my Redbird in to reload today. Asked for the usual $1000 load at Customer Service and used a $50 Vanilla Visa from last week's Office Depot promotion to pay the first $50 and had an Amex GC to cover the remainder.
The $50 Visa was swiped and the last 4 was entered and then the register got stuck and asked for an "override" or something, so the manager-entered the last 4 of the $50 again (I think) and the receipt printed out showing the full $1000 charged to my $50 visa GC.
The funds are available on my Redbird. My $50 Visa GC shows a transaction pending for $0 at Target. I'm guessing that at some point Amex will realize they didn't get that $1000. Or maybe the Target I went to will discover something went missing - hopefully it doesn't lead to me getting shut down there.
Anyone else have an experience like this?
I used to reload the Amex Campus Edition at campus bookstores and this happened to me a couple of times. I had a hyper-sensitive Citi Forward that declined a $500 charge but somehow the register overrode it and the Campus Edition card was funded anyway. This happened twice and no one ever noticed and there was no way I could report it to anyone.
Withdraw the $1,000 ASAP and just close down the RB.
