Just finished another swing through Asia including Hong Kong and JaPan and my Schwab Checking Account continues to present no issues in withdrawing from local ATMs at roughly the spot rate (in Japan just had to find international card accepting machines in Niseko where there were no multinational bank chains).

In HK all ATMs I tried including HSBC worked without issue. There are multiple in the airport itself so this is by far the easiest route and allows you to manage money easily (I always take out the equivalent of $100 USD and use my CC as much as possible while drawing down cash as needed and supplementing if the reserve gets too small).

Cab to HR TST was $256 HKD which was the largest cash payment I needed to make all trip so no issues overall.
