And to stipulate that the uniforms be designed and purchased by a US owned company rather than a foreign manufacturer - how selfish!
The issue at UA was that they didn't want to eat the same meals UA offered to Y passengers. All things including Crew meals come at a cost. At the time the AFA-CWA (representing pre-merger UA) was facing a runoff election with the IAM (repersenting pre-merger CO). The CO agreement provided (and still provides) higher base pay rates but imposes a lower overall cost through more flexible work rules and higher productivity.
