I live in the UK, so flying grab a seat is not an option. Of course there are *alliance flights but I was wondering if there are any non-flight options.

I have more than enough status points from qualifying flights but I'm 109 points short.
Best value *A flight options from UK aren't convenient, but basically are to fly domestically in the US on discount first tickets on United. 60SP each way. So you could fly cheap on UA to EWR or IAD (30SP each way in economy, pay for economy plus to make it tolerable) and then a return even on a short hop (say IAD-EWR) gets 120SP in first. Domestic UA first on short hops isn't too pricey for the SP you get if you book early.

All up that trip would get you 180SP, but it does take time (basically a weekend in NYC done indirectly gets you this).

Having said that, you'll get more crediting that to UA MP.
