OP, yes, you can do this. The challenge will be finding a flight with open R at T-24.
Also, as others have noted, the only reason to upfare to a W is if you're trying to use a GPU. You can upgrade the S with miles + co-pay.
Agreed. SDC allows us to change booking class without a fee.
You can even upfare to a changeable fee, then....
