I wholeheartedly agree with
CCayley's entire post, and as a vegetarian I especially agree with the above quoted paragraph. (I also don't see why eating cow or chicken is OK to most in the West, but eating cat or dog or horse is gross. But that is a different topic.)
If you are truly concerned with animal welfare, don't eat meat. Period.
If however your objection to eating halal is because you think that is "giving in to the Muslims" or something like that, well that is just weird and, frankly, bigoted. (And for the record, I am an atheist and don't like the idea of "supporting"
any religion. But I don't see how an omnivore eating halal when there are no other available choices is in any way supporting Islam.)
