Typically, AA fly the 767 with new J seats on that route, so yes. And IB usually uses its new product too. Remember that AA will protect your booking even if you are on two separate PNRs while IB would not. In that sense, in your case, I would really tend to book the AA flights (even though conversely, you are eligible to EC261 compensation from JFK with IB but not with AA.

On your original question, while others are right that luggage will be no issue, it would not be possible to "link" bookings anyway.
