Don't worry they get them back if you want to upgrade on those partners. They tend to ask a lot more. Examples: AMS-TLV if you let Delta arrange it it is 30.000 SM for a 4h30m EBC (not WBC) upgrade. If you let KLM arrange it they will deduct 15.000 SM (or 79EUR since they consider this EU medium haul) from your SM account.
AUH-AMS (around 6h55m), Delta asks 30.000 SM, KLM will do it for 20.000 SM

MSP-AMS 8h45 on DAL..Delta asks 25000 SM
