As to the OP, regardless of who you book the flight - either LH or UA, you will earn miles according to the UA fare structure and flight will be flown and operated by United. So, I would go with the airline offering the lower price. Unless you're crediting to United MP, in which case it helps to book through them since you earn Premier Qualifying Dollars on United-issued tickets if having Premier status is important to you.
