It is BA's problem: your contract is with BA, not EI or anyone else. Poor IT infrastructure means that EI and BA don't really talk to each other.
Before you call, decide what you want: look up acceptable flights, schedules and routes. You will be accommodated on BA without problem, maybe on IB or AA/US/AY if you really insist (or if it's the only way to get to your ticketed destination). Possibly EI. Other carriers, no chance.
If the EI flight is departing from the EU, then it is EI's problem - EC261 will apply regarding cancellation and EI will be responsible for meeting the obligations under EC261 as per article 5
which means that the passenger will be entitled to re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity
BA is just a travel agent and getting BA to fix it requires generosity on their part or alternative award availability
If it us covered by EC261, contact EI and insist on another service
