I've found that, especially on United you can find multi-hub MRs or MRs that make use of shuttle routing. Often, these appear on Expedia if you restrict your search to only United flights. For instance MEM-ORD-DEN-SEA or MEM-DEN-SFO/PDX-SEA instead of MEM-ORD/DEN-SEA as an example.
