Having grown up in the US you can always just "walk out" and then walk back later if you wanted to as there isn't much to the airports but t5 is a different animal. I had always assumed there was a sequence of events involving the walking tunnels that could get you out?
Assuming you're arriving from another flight and - as
njf63 says - you have a valid visa, you just have to go to arrivals. If you go to flight connections and stay airside then it's more complicated.
